6-Days Rwanda Safari Tour: Explore the Beauty of Rwanda

Rwanda was a monarchy for centuries, ruled by Tutsi kings who managed the land through chiefs. The country was peaceful and united. In 1897, Germany colonized Rwanda, and Belgium took over in 1916. Rwanda became independent on July 1, 1962, after the Rwandan Revolution, which led to the deaths of many Tutsis and forced many to flee.

In 1994, a genocide against the Tutsis took place, killing over one million people in 100 days. The genocide was organized by a regime that trained militias to kill Tutsis and any Hutus who opposed them. The international community, including UN peacekeepers, failed to stop the genocide.

Genocide aims to destroy a group of people based on race, religion, or ethnicity. It involves planning and steps like dehumanization and extermination. The Tutsi genocide was carefully planned using hate speech and propaganda.

Rwandans remember the genocide every year on April 7, the day the killings started in 1994. This day is also the International Day of Reflection on the Genocide against the Tutsi. For 100 days, Rwanda holds activities to remember and educate about the genocide. Visitors to Rwanda are encouraged to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn about the genocide and Rwanda’s journey towards justice and reconciliation.
