Watch the playful chimpanzees, the graceful Angola colobus monkeys, and the charming grey-cheeked monkeys. Guided by expert trackers, you will walk along winding trails to find these amazing creatures. Each sighting shows the park’s rich biodiversity.

Canopy Walk and Igishigishigi Trail

High above a ravine in Nyungwe National Park’s lush rainforest, the canopy walkway offers a thrilling view of the ancient treetops and wildlife.

The walkway is a suspension bridge that is 160 meters long and 70 meters high. It can be accessed as part of a guided tour along the Igishigishigi trail or by hiking the Imbaraga or Umuyove trails.

Nyungwe forest survived the last ice age and is rich in biodiversity. During the one-hour walk to the canopy walkway from the Uwinka Reception Centre, visitors can see many butterflies, orchids, and colorful birds, including some that are unique to the area.

There are thirteen species of primates in Nyungwe, so there’s a chance to see them during your visit. However, if you really want to see primates, it’s best to book a special primate tour.

The steep forest trails are well-maintained but can get muddy, especially after it rains.

Get a bird’s-eye view of the forest canopy on the famous Canopy Walkway. Feel the excitement as you walk among the treetops, with the world spread out beneath you in a stunning panorama.
